CHKD 8K--We Did It Ya'll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Everyone:

I'm excited, elated, thrilled, shocked, and gloriously happy to report that Jason and I ran the CHKD 8K this morning!!!!!! And guess what??? We actually finished it!!! What an experience!!! Jay had a fantastic time of 48:24 and as for me.....well, I finished @ 74:10!!! I'm proud to say I ran the whole way AND I didn't come in last place!!! I can't believe how far we have come in a few short weeks!!!! It is truly amazing what you can push your body to do!! The race was extremely tough...It was VERY hot and humid. Definitely the most physically exhausting thing I have EVER done (and that includes having three children!!!). I am sooo proud of us as a family. The kids all completed the Children's One Mile Fun Run (thanks to Grams for helping them through while Jay and I were recovering from the race)! What a fantastic way to celebrate Jay's 36th birthday!!! Jay and I have clearly not come down from our runner's high because we are already talking about our next race!!!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! Team Doak raised $1,630.00!!! Our team, as of today, is one of the highest fundraisers in the ENTIRE race!!! That is because of all of you!! Please know your donations will be going to a fantastic cause and Jay and I were thinking of all of you as we ran!!!!!!!!!

Here are some pictures from our day! Enjoy!!!

Tomorrow's The Big Day!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice to see being on TV hasn't gone to Ashlyn's head....

So tomorrow is the actual RACE DAY!!!! I am soooo nervous. I don't even know how I'm going to make it through today!!! Jay and I have both done everything we possibly could to physically get ready for this run so all was have to do now is put our faith in that training and in God, and pray we come out of this alive!!!! Please wish us luck. We will be running not only for our kids tomorrow, but for all the kids CHKD has helped, and for all of our family and friends who have donated to our team soooo generously! We are humbled by your kindness. The only way we can pay any of you back now is to shut up and run...If you'd like to come out and support us; the 8K begins TOMORROW (June 13th) @ 7:45am!!! We'd love to see our family and friends at the finish line!!! Please check back this weekend. As soon as I possibly can I will post an update of our race results!!!

Also, check out the CHKD fundraising page....Look @ the Top Teams and the Top Fundraisers....impressive, no?

WAVY TV Meets The Doak Family!!!!!

Hi everyone:

Here is the story they aired yesterday on the WAVY TV 10 5:00 news! We were very happy with the end result!! Jay says I sound very "Southern." Thanks, honey! The only thing I would correct is that the story made it seem as if I don't enjoy running and in my attempt @ humor I think my aprreciation for the sport was lost....I DO like running which is definitely something I never thought I would hear myself say....So, enjoy the clip! We had a blast and of course, LOVE seeing our little cuties on TV...and Speaking of cuties, didn't Jay look AWESOME!!! How cute was he?!?! Please wish us luck...The race is 3 short days away!!! If you'd still like to donate the link to do so is

I Am Runner Hear Me Roar

Hey Everyone:
Although I have shamelessly begged my family and friends to sponsor Jay and I in next week's CHKD 8K, I have yet to really go into details regarding my training program. Mainly for the fact that---and I'm being completely honest here--I am a complete and utter hot mess when I run! It's truly tragic.... My runs consist of heavy breathing, copious amounts of sweat, the occasional mid-run breakdown, and always an overall feeling of terror, dread, and great discomfort....Why in the world am I doing this to myself? This is a question I ask myself EVERY TIME before, during, and after my run...And the truth is I'm not entirely sure. Part of me thinks it is the control freak in me that loves knowing I am the only one that can control my running destiny...I, and I alone, am responsible for running, no matter how tragic and flawed that act may be. I like that..I'm not a team sport kind of girl, but I can push myself harder and more than anyone else...

I RUN BECAUSE:
A. I want to get in shape...to be healthy for me and my family...to fend off any more sick diseases like Cancer....
B. I am raising money for an awesome cause...CHKD rocks!!!
C. I HAVE to prove to you naysayers (you know who you are) that I CAN, in fact, do this....
and last but not least...
D. it is written........I have had a recurring dream since I was a little kid that I was a runner...In my dream I would run and run and run..Effortlessly and fantastically! It is my destiny...I'm sure of it.....(and at the end of my 8K run next week I may in fact break out into a full-on Bollywood dance number in celebration of fulfilling said destiny.....)

So having said all that---I am up to 4 miles (at a snail's pace) and I'm pretty confident I can now complete an 8K. I've come a long way from Easter when I could not even run for one minute without thinking I would go into cardiac arrest (that's the absolute truth...) My goal is to finish the race and maybe even not be the last person to cross that finish line (but truly, I don't care if I am).....
Here is the playlist to my run...I'm thinking of switching things up this week, but these are the songs that have got me to the point I'm at now:
1.City of Blinding Lights-U2
2.Tall Fiddler-Tommy Emmanel (this song rocks...it's fast and super awesome!!)
3. My Name Is Jonas-Weezer (gosh, I love Weezer)
4. Mr. Brightside--The Killers (a little Brandon Flowers daydreaming always makes myday a little brighter)
5. Something Hot-Afghan Whigs (this song is hot!!!)
6. 66-Afghan Whigs
7. Two Step-Dave Matthews ( a good pick-me-up)
8. Over My Head-The Fray (usually my breakdown song...tears, hiccuping, the whole nine yards)
9. Geek In The Pink-Jason Mraz
10. Curbside Prophet-Jason Mraz (live version featuring John Popper and expletives that I'm screaming to myself already...)
11. Neon-John Mayer
12. Bigger Than My Body-John Mayer
13. Harder to Breathe--Maroon 5 (aww, the irony).
14. Seven Nation Army--The White Stripes..

A long playlist for a a very sloooooow runner....Thanks again to everyone who has donated! I love you all very much and am so happy with your generosity!!!
If you haven't donated and would still like to here is the link!

CHKD Race Update

Hi Everyone:
A big THANK YOU to all of you who have donated to the CHKD race!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jay and I are humbled and thrilled with the generosity of so many of our family members and friends!!! We have surpassed our $500 goal!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The race is a short ten days away (YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), but it is NOT to late to contribute to our fundraising efforts!!! Please help if you can! I know this is cliche, but every little bit makes a huge difference!!! Even if you can only swing $5....(believe me I know how tight money is for people right now...have you SEEN my blog posts about my new coupon obsession???) In return, Jay and I will do our absolute best to complete this race with grace and dignity (ha! or @ least finish without being carried away on a stretcher!!!!)!!!!!!!!!!

Again, thanks to those who have already donated!!!! We really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the link to make a donation online:

And to my lovely friend Elizabeth: I absolutely plan on envisioning Rob Pattinson @ the end of the finish line...how else would I ever complete such a ridiculous endeavor..........
Ha!! I knew I could sneak a R.P. pic in here....

Hatteras Island Vacation

So we got back yesterday from our camping trip down to Hatteras Island. We stayed at the Ocean Waves Campground which was simply fantastic. Our campsite was AWESOME...We had shade and were yards away from the ocean! We packed a lot into the four days we were there. We visited the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Jay and Stella climbed to the top and said the view was phenomenal! We took the ferry over to Ocracoke Island and went to the beach there and went into town for ice cream. On Sunday we went to Jockey's Ridge State Park. There was a kite surfing competition going on about a half mile from our campground so we headed over and checked it out. Jay and I were fascinated by this sport...We had a great trip..Here are a few pics...
